Formed in 2008, Friends of Lake Orange (FOLO) is a social organization dedicated to maintaining Lake Orange's environment through effective water management, retaining a wide variety of wildlife, and permitting family recreational opportunities. FOLO is an independent organization from Lake Orange, Inc., and no formal contracts or agreements exist between the two corporations. Lake Orange, Inc. views FOLO as a trusted partner for engaging the community around Lake Orange and plans to work closely with FOLO to foster productive engagement and discussions with this community.
Orange County is the local municipality in North Carolina that owns Lake Orange, the water in Lake Orange, the flood easement surrounding Lake Orange, and the Lake Orange Dam and Spillway. The County uses the water in Lake Orange as a drinking water reservoir and plays a key role in regulating the water quality of the lake. Orange County maintains a website describing Lake Orange and some of the improvement projects undertaken in recent years.
