Water quality on Lake Orange will become a major focus of Lake Orange, Inc. going forward. Protecting the qualty of Lake Orange is important for the lake users, downstream drinking water consumers, and surrounding property owners alike.
NC DEQ routinely tests the water quality of all surface waters in water supply watersheds in North Carolina through the Ambient Lakes Monitoring Program. Lake Orange is tested as part of this program and higher-than-allowable levels of Chlorophyll-a have been detected in recent years.
Three site numbers are relevant to Lake Orange: NEU00B4, NEU00B, and NEU00B2.

Test results have classified Lake Orange as Nutrient Sensitive Waters (NSW) indicating phosphorus and nitrogen must be better controlled to restrict algae growth, as measured by levels of chlorophyll-a.
